The Devil's Dance - Tusui Sùpay in Kechwa (a Quechuan language) - is a sacred dance originally from the southern Ander of Peru. It is commonly found in the region once inhabitated by the warlike ethnic group of the Chanka, heirs to the vast Wari Empire. This mountain people put up a strenuous fight against the Inca troops sent from Cuzco. But, after a fierce war, in the first half of the 15th century, they were subjugated by Pachacutec, the great Inca conqueror. The area in which the Devil's Dance is found extends alogn the Andean ridge, embracing today's provinces of Huancavelica, Ayacucho, Apurìmac, and also includes the Arequipa province in the northen Andes.
