In autumn 2013 the Ligabue Study and Research Centre welcomed to Venice the celebrated Peruvian archaeologist Federico Kauffmann Doig. The Study Centre has conducted numerous archaeological and anthropological expeditions with this leading expert on the Peruvian Amazon area. The results include the discovery of significant Chachapoya-culture sarcophagi in northern Peru in 1985. As well as holding important international scientific and institutional positions, Kauffmann Doig was for long the director of the Amazonian Archaeological Institute in Lima. He and the Study Centre and are now considering some possible new joint explorations and anthropological research in the Amazon area of Peru.
